Serious About Health
by
Sylvie Greil
Herbal
remedies have been used for centuries in Europe to cure
ailments ranging from sore throats to arthritis to more
serious diseases. Unlike the U.S. with its current medical
model mostly centered on treating symptoms once they arise,
Europe has a long prophylactic, homeopathic and naturopathic
history aimed at preserving health. Herbal infusions are
particularly popular for the prevention of illness.
Sevene
infusions and decoctions hail from the Cévennes region
of France, on the Domaine de Mazet, an area said to be virtually
free of pollution. The cornflower, lemon verbena, basil,
sweet fennel, sage and mint carefully grown here were tested
in German lab experiments that revealed them to be particularly
potent and high in energy levels. This element is crucial:
Sevene believes that for a medicinal plant to work, it has
to be biologically active and “grown in conditions
specifically orchestrated to preserve the life-force essential
to [its] efficiency.” Sevene takes meticulous care
of its plants, irrigating them with deep-sourced Mazet water,
drying them naturally in their “plant chapel,”
and making sure they remain certified organic by Ecocert
France.

According
to Sevene’s Daniela Segalowitch, “The land of
the Domaine de Mazet has never been subject to intensive
agriculture or livestock breeding and has never received
any chemical treatments or fertilizers. It is located in
the area of the Cévennes National Park that has been
declared a "World Biosphere Reserve" by UNESCO
in 1985.” She says this area has a very low population
and no nearby highways or industry. It remains one of the
most pristine areas of Europe. It is also far away from
the major tourism areas. According to studies done in 1990,
this region was home to the people who lived the longest.

The
Infusions et Décoctions Sevene are sorted by colors,
one color per sphere of action, each sphere representing
one of the five main functional systems of the human body.
Thus Sevene herbs can work on any of the following areas:
circulation, elimination, digestion, balance and respiratory
function. For instance, you may have a cup of chamomile
for better sleep, fennel for an upset stomach or black currant
when you feel a cold coming on. Herbs like sage, heather
and elder can also be used to lend support in cleansing
the body of toxins.
Use
only filtered or low-mineral content spring water for the
preparation of infusions or decoctions, as contaminated
water will reduce their effectiveness and may even make
them toxic. The herbs are packaged separately, as Sevene
says mixing reduces their effectiveness. You’ll feel
quite like an alchemist, concocting your “witches’
brew” as you add a pinch of this and two pinches of
that. You’ll also feel proactive when it comes to
taking care of your own health in natural ways.

Some applications:
BASIL
Basil aids during times of stress and promotes digestion.
CORNFLOWER
Cornflower has a soft depurative action.
LEMON VERBENA
Lemon Verbena protects and tones the venous system, improves
digestion and can ease migraines.
LINDEN
Linden promotes refreshing sleep while calming and rebalancing
a stressed nervous system.
PEPPERMINT
Peppermint has a cleansing effect on the gastro-intestinal
tract. It also works as a stimulant.
