Become Your Own Tea Master
by Chas Kroll

With the explosive growth of the specialty tea industry in North America, there is great interest in enhancing one's knowledge about various tea types. A wonderful way to learn is by experiencing the unique tastes of different teas through a course such as Tea Mastery for New Tea Drinkers, developed by Royal Dynasty Tea. Much like a wine lover would never confuse a Syrah with a Petite Sirah, a tea connoisseur has a keen taste for the particulars of an oolong versus a typical white tea. With more than 3,000 varieties of tea to choose from, this course will expand participants' knowledge and experience by giving them the opportunity to taste-test and evaluate three different loose-leaf teas in twelve different classifications—thirty-six teas in all.

In each of the twelve separate lessons, the class will taste-test three different teas (1/2 oz. each yielding six 6-oz. cups) and discuss the history and background of each tea. They will also receive preparation instructions and recommended tea-tasting protocol evaluation forms. Class topics include Japanese Green Teas, Chinese Green Teas, Green Teas From Other Countries, Oolong Teas, English Black Teas, Chinese Black Teas, Indian Black Teas, Black Teas From Other Countries, White Teas, South African Teas, Flavored Teas and Herbal Teas/Tisanes. Course registrants will receive the thirty-page Tea Mastery Manual, which includes: Preparation of New Teapots, Arrange Your Utensils, Gongfu – The Way of Tea, Steps for Serving Gongfu, Taste-Testing Protocol, Tea Evaluation Form, Caffeine Consumption and Health Benefits of Tea.

Registrants may participate individually or form small groups of up to six friends. Everyone completing the course will receive a Certificate of Completion. In addition, they will be sent a special “Mystery Tea” and asked to evaluate and identify it based on their new-found knowledge and experience after completing the course.

Tuition for the Tea Mastery for New Tea Drinkers Course is $195. More information and secure online registration is available at www.royaldynastytea.com, or by calling 858-492-8491.
