Anastasia
Kusmi Tea
Rating: 14.5/20
Kusmi Tea’s Anastasia blend is a black tea with a matching black past. The company, now based in Paris, was founded in St. Petersburg in 1867 by Pavel Michailovitch Kousmichoff, and was an official supplier of the Russian czars. Kousmichoff escaped the Russian revolution of 1917, but the czar and his family did not, and this tea was created in memory of the murdered Grand Duchess Anastasia. For something with such a heavy history, this tea has a surprisingly light taste: it’s a fruitier, smoother take on the traditional Earl Grey, with essence of bergamot, lemon and orange blossom. An excellent afternoon tea, it would go perfectly with buttery shortbread, or perhaps some traditional Russian Rogaliky.
